Halloween is over

NaBloPoMo

Halloween is finally done.  Honestly, it’s not one of my favourite times of the year, it always seemed like a lot of work for something that never really excited me.  (Apparently I was not a candy fan when I was young according to my mom, so it’s probably a good thing that I ended up as the diabetic one!)

Big Boy dressed up for school yesterday, due to the inclement weather (which was simply Canada in October) the school didn’t take them out walking through uptown but allowed them to do indoor trick-or-treating.  He told me that he took his costume off after going “pee in the hallway” (after further clarification it turns out that he used the main bathroom in the hall rather than the small one in his classroom, for a minute there I was very worried about what I would find in his communication folder!) but came home with a big bag of treats nonetheless.

He very nicely shared his loot with his brother and since neither of them eats candy I didn’t see any reason why we should go out in the cold, rainy night.  (The fact that we would have had to drive into town was also a factor, although I had no problem driving into town to pick up pizza!)

We decided to have a family video game marathon which was fun but also frustrating.  Trying to get a 3-year-old to power up the blue thingy as Storm is difficult when all he wants to do is fly around as Iron Man! (We’re quite into the Lego Marvel Super Heroes game right now.)

I wanted to get the boys to stay up a bit later to prepare them for the time change tonight so gaming worked well.  Sometime after 8:00 (which is usually bedtime) my sister showed up bringing her own little trick-or-treater to our door.  The boys were excited to see their cousin but between them being super-hyper-tired and her being fall-over-on-her-face-tired it was a short, sweet visit.

This morning we were greeted with the first snow flurries of the season which meant that the boys wanted to be outside playing in the snow first thing!  It worked out well for me because I was able to sit at the kitchen table drinking coffee while they played on the deck  which was the only place that the snow was sticking too.

That lasted as long as it took for them to melt all the snow by walking on it but it was enough for them.  Now we’ll spend this cold, grey, wind-chilly day building Lego somethings and playing games together.

(Hopefully my brother will forgive me for breaking fourth wall here!)

I think that’s a great start to winter and #NaBloPoMo (my husband refused to do Movember because he says everyone at work thinks he’s younger than he actually is so he doesn’t want them to see how grey his mustache is!) which I have decided to participate in.  That’ll mean shorter stories (at least for this month!) but more of them!  Thank you for choosing to read my random musings, I truly appreciate it!
